Mount
Farm is run by Roly Tavernor. This is a dairy farm of
about 300 acres with
240 cows, each cow yielding 5,000 litres. No milk is
produced during November and December when the cows are ‘dried
off’. This follows the growth patterns of the grass.
The cows are kept grazing for as long as possible each
year between February and November. The cows are calved
in February, March and April.
Mount
Farm’s
milk is sold to a milk co-operative. This co-operative then
sells the milk on to the dairy companies. This means the
milk is not necessarily used locally and is often sent to
Malpas in Cheshire or up to Manchester.
