Graeme
Hutchinson has delivered milk on the doorsteps of
Market Drayton for 10 years. He worked in the Fine
Fare supermarket
in Kendal before moving down to the supermarket in
Market Drayton. He took up the milk round when the
store was bought out by Somerfield. He still delivers
to the same number of customers but covers twice
as many streets. Graeme initially lost customers to
the
supermarket but now the biggest loss is when people
move away or die. The new residents tend not to want
their milk delivered. The average age of his customers
is going up all the time. 'One day the round might
disappear but some people can't get out. They tell
me that they find the sound of milk bottles a comfort.
When I know customers are away I keep my eye on their
houses as I do my round.
