Gill
Smith’s father ran Bennett’s Restaurant and
dairy farm at Ightfield. The food industry and catering
remains very much a family concern. Before joining the
company, Gill’s husband once worked for the Milk
Marketing Board. Once a wholesale supplier to hotels
and restaurants, Gill’s Puddings is now a retail
outlet in Shropshire Street, producing all their own
wares for direct sale to their customers.
Sarah
Pollard, pictured in the photograph is a student at Wrexham
in graphic design. She has worked for the company during
her holidays for a number of years. The local food industry
has become increasingly dependent, particularly in the
retail sector, on the employment of young people on a
casual basis.
