Cadburys opened their first factory in the area at Knighton in 1911. The company became one of the largest buyers of milk in North East Shropshire. They used the canals to transport milk south to their factories in Birmingham. Cadburys opened their second factory at Stoke on Tern between 1935 and 1938.

Today the wharf is used for recreational purposes. Small commercial enterprises can be found in the buildings around the wharf.
