Nigel comes from a family of fruiterers and greengrocers whose business was established in Ashton Under Lyme in 1898. He became a town planner and practised in Scotland before moving to Saudi Arabia where he became an Assistant Professor of Town Planning at . On his return to Scotland he helped build up a not for profit company providing business services and property to small medium enterprises.He was Deputy Chief Executive and Operations Director.

Nigel then looked for a change of scene and took on the job of the Market Towns Initiative Manager in Market Drayton. His stay was cut short when he returned to Scotland for personal reasons. He is currently employed in policy planning.

During his time in the town Nigel confirmed the potential inherent in the local food connection as a vehicle for the rejuvenation and benefit of the local community.
