Sian Walkden specializes in lamb which
is organically reared on her farm in Wales, near Harlech. Because
she owns around 600 sheep in Wales, producing a maximum of 150 lambs
to sell per season, Sian prefers to sell her product to individuals
who ring ahead. She takes only a small number to markets.
Having moved from Gloucestershire
for more land almost 16 years ago, Sian now lives in Betton and
regularly travels to her 680-acre farm in Wales. The farm is a
designated Grade 1 Site of Special Scientific Interest due to
its mixture of lichens and mosses, and is incredibly scenic. The
area was the home of the Princes of Gwynd when Wales was divided
into 3 principalities, tracing back to the year 1000. It is now
also a European Heritage Site boasting Roman Steps built into
the landscape and a 60-acre lake.
The BBC Good Food guide approached
Sian, as they were so impressed with her produce, she now features
on their website. Plans for the future include the intention to have
organic Dexter beef within two years. |
