| Scott's business continues to grow despite the hazards he has experienced
including egg scares, BSE, supermarkets opening, and foot and mouth
he describes the impact of the supermarkets with their pre-packed
meat as the most challenging. His response has been to provide his
own packs on a self service counter where he can give customers advice
and customize the cuts available. He has also introduced a lot of
special offers and offers a range of other foods. He has noticed that
people no longer buy as many joints for the week-end. At Christmas
he sells more beef than anything else. There is now a trend towards
quick meals and products that can be prepared and cooked within half
an hour. . He sells a lot more steaks and bacon than 10 years ago.
He sells his steaks direct to local pubs. Until five years ago the
summer season was the quietest time of year but the BBQ trade has
changed this around and he has bought an electric burger maker to
meet the demand.
Scott likes to make his own purchases locally as he believes that
supporting the local economy is important. He sponsors school football
kits and local events. His demonstrations of different cuts of meat
to visitors to the Taste of the Town Exhibition made a particular
impression on the students from the Grove school. |
