Ben supplies quality eggs to outlets in Market Drayton, Baldwins Gate, Newcastle Under Lyme, Blackbrook, Hungersheath, Newport and Eccleshall as well as directly to the public. He also rears Rhea birds on land at Loggerheads. He works part-time at the Westholme Nursery in Woore .

Ben has been rearing poultry and ducks since childhood and his hobby grew as he invested time, money and space to his growing number of rare breeds. When he left the Grove school he went on a Conservation course at Rodbaston College. He worked at the Hales Sawmills and then on the Hales Estate as part of his day release before joining the Estate staff on completion of his training. He worked in the coppices, built fencing and spent time with the gamekeeper, rearing pheasants. He was encouraged to have a go at egg production when Sherwood's Wholefoods opened. This became his first outlet. The small holding received it's first stock of Black Rock Hens in 1997 and was then given a Packing Station number and registered as a free range egg producer.

Ben's other interest is with Rheas, an ostrich-like bird native to South America. He bought his first pair in 1999 and since then has successfully hatched a number of chicks.

The birds are sold onto other small holders and landowners. Since Ben has had his own web site, customers have come from other parts of the country to buy from his stock.

The fields also provide grazing for a few sheep and hay that is sold on for horses. The lamb is sold directly to local people. Ben continues to keep the woods in check when they threaten to encroach on the fields. The source of the Hempmill Brook is located on the land.
