Janice took over the management of the Stafford Court Hotel in October 2003. It has taken her 20 years to get there.

Janice moved to Market Drayton when her father joined Palethorpes in 1968. She left the Grove School and went to Radbrook College to train as a hotel receptionist and start out on a career in the catering industry. She worked in hotels around the area for 10 years and then married and moved to Cambridgeshire. She came back into town in 1997 and worked in the town since then, latterly at T.O.Williams. the bakers and delicatessen.

Janice has always wanted to own her own pub in Market Drayton. Being manager of the Stafford Court is her first opportunity to achieve this. When the previous landlord left she was given only 36hrs to make up her mind and to start the job. She initially depended on the customers to tell her how to do things and put her right. They proved very supportive.

Being pub manager is proving to be everything that she hoped it would be. It is exhilarating, sometimes frustrating but always fun. There is still a rush of adrenalin that carries her through the long hours involved. She sees the potential of the pub as an alternative meeting place to pubs that are part of the local pub and club culture. She wants to make more of the restaurant and maintains laid out tables. She plans to develop the business as a recognised market town hotel with 12 letting bedrooms and to make more of the history of the 17 th Century coaching inn. These are early days but it is good to be here.

Janice recruits her fulltime and part-time staff locally and sources her supplies from local traders wherever possible. The Carvery remains open on Wednesday and Sunday but closes on Mondays. She provides leaflets on attractions in the area. The Stafford Court Hotel continues to carry the Market Drayton in Bloom hanging street baskets.

Janice hopes to draw from the network more customers and more support for the regeneration of the town. She would like to encourage a sense of pride in the town and would welcome the planting of trees in Stafford St. and the whole approach to the Town Centre from the Canal bridge made visually attractive.
She offers to the network a commitment to help in the re-generation of the town and the use of the Stafford Court facilities.
