Roger is Chair of Market Drayton Churches Together. Eating with others is a significant part of the shared living experience. Food is central to the life of all religious communities. The symbolic act of eating and drinking within the Holy Communion is at the heart of Christian Church and Harvest festivals are part of it's tradition. The commitment to feed the poor and hungry not only in the locality but across the world is an expression of the Christian faith. Churches Togther exists to encourage one another's different practices and traditions. There is a collective role for the churches in the life of the local community and a need to bring together the strands of the same spiritual message in order to promote it more widely.
Roger was brought up on a farm in Cornwall that produced milk, beef and eggs. His parents retired early because of illness and took on a small holding concentrating on producing Cornish clotted cream. He trained as a manager/supervisor in a local cash n' carry food who;esale and retail business. The Chapel was very much part of the rural community. The congregation were mostly farmers and their roots into the countryside were strong.Roger spent two years in a Bible College in rural Derbyshire before his first Ministry in Birminham. He came to Market Drayton in 2000. His constituency is the Town, Soudley and Hinstock. As well as preaching and conducting services he has pastoral duties and works with a range of age groups in the community. Like his colleagues he is very mindful of the positive contribution that informal caring networks make to the lives of the more vulnerable members of his local communities. The church supports its own network of visitors and sponsors a range of welfare activities including a mini-bus. For Roger the town epitomises the vibrancy of life in rural communities. He appreciates the number of activities on offer and the energy that people put into them. He particularly loves market day when his members from the villages come in. He meets them in the street and they catch up with each others news. That's country living. |
